One amenity the hotel failed to mention.

May 10th, 2012

When I read the amenities for the Holiday Inn Express South Side in Pittsburgh they never mentioned the hotel was right next to the railroad tracks. That wasn’t the bad thing. The bad thing was there were two small road crossings and every time a train passed during the night, the engineer had to blow that train horn three times at each crossing.

West Virginia, way to go.

May 9th, 2012

The good folks of West Virginia did it again. Yesterday was the Democratic primary in that great State. A guy in prison in Texas ran against the Messiah. How embarrassing it would be if the guy in prison beat the Chosen One? Not to fear the guy in prison only got 40% of the votes. Read about it here.

Guess which State?

May 7th, 2012

When I saw this headline, my first reaction was which State would do this? I have to admit California came to mind first, then I thought about Maryland, they are always sticking their collective noses into other peoples business. But then I remembered the nanny State of Massachusetts. Of course it is Massachusetts. California and Maryland won’t be far behind however.

Great to have on a warm summer’s day.

Orange creamsicle shots

3/4 cup of milk
1 small package vanilla instant pudding mix ( 3oz)
1 (8oz) tub Cool Whip
1/2 cup of triple sec
1/4 cup of orange vodka

Add cold milk and liquors to pudding and mix with an electric mixer until smooth. Fold in whipped topping and mix until blended. I poured the mixture into those small plastic glasses they have for bathrooms. Put them in the freezer for 3 or 4 hours. Serve with a spoon. Delicious.

Check back often for updates. Making a batch of key lime pie shots today. Root beer float, black raspberry cheesecake, oatmeal cookie, butterfinger blizzard, peppermint patty, and french vanilla caramel are but a few we will try in the coming weeks. Going to be a fun summer.

UPDATE:

Next I tried key lime pie pudding shot. Recipe called for 3/4 cup of Lime Captain Morgan Rum and instant lemon pudding mix. Didn’t have that kind of rum so I used 5 ounces of regular Captain and once ounce of Roses lime juice. It was better than creamsicle one. Sprinkled graham cracker crumbs on top for garnish.

Couldn’t stop there. Then I made black raspberry cheesecake pudding shots. Topped with cheery pie filling. Should have used a black raspberry topping. I will next time. This calls for cheesecake instant pudding mix and the liquor here is 1/4 cup of vodka and 1/2 cup of the purple stuff. That’s what we called it here in State College. It is actually called Baha Luna, and not available everywhere. The Pennsylvania State Stores have just stopped carrying it. Trying to find where else it is sold. Good stuff. Can’t wait for my friends at the Vets to try these shots.

I just tried the peppermint patty shots. I was surprised that I liked them. Chocolate pudding and peppermint schnapps.

Root beer floats are in the freezer now. Root beer schnapps and vanilla pudding.

Tried the key lime shots again with Bacardi instead of Captain Morgan. I like the Captain ones better.

Last night at a friend’s house we created one of our own. 1/2 cup of whipped chocolate cream vodka, 3/8 cup of Godiva chocolate liqueur and 3/8 cup of Bailey’s original cream. They are in the freezer now. The beaters were great. Can’t wait to try those.

Have you heard of the new student drinking game?

May 3rd, 2012

I don’t think the student drinking game called Possum has caught on in the States, but I read it is a big hit in New Zealand. The game has quite simple rules: you sit in a tree and drink until you fall out of the tree.

Sounds like a potential X Games sport with judges scoring each fall. A degree of difficultly could be assigned to each fall based on things like how high the contestant was in the tree, the amount of alcohol consumed, and the amount of time in the tree.

What a relief?

Earth Day in San Francisco!!!!

April 24th, 2012

I think it is so nice that Green tree-hugging liberals get together to celebrate Earth Day. Fort Mason park is such a beautiful area down by the marina in San Francisco. Here is a picture of the area after these mother earth loving jerks left the park.

This is unbelievable.

This congressman is actually worried that if too many people get on one side of the island of Guam it might tip over and capsize. How can anyone be that stupid? And how can the admiral sit there and not break out laughing? Thanks neighbor Jack for sending this to me.

Had to re-post this.

I think it’s time to re-think the voting age in America. In the early 1960′s the voting and legal drinking age in this country was 21. There were a few States that allowed drinking of alcohol at 18, but most were 21.

Then when the draft came along and young men were forced into military and started dying in large numbers, there was a push to lower the drinking and voting age nation-wide to 18. The saying, at the time was if you could die for your country at 18 you should be allowed to drink alcohol and vote at 18.

I’m sure it made sense at the time. But then, as usual, the unintended consequences of Congressional actions started to appear. Drunk driving accidents skyrocketed and ten of thousands of people died every year on American highways because of young people who were not mature enough to handle drinking alcohol did so and then got behind the wheel of a car.

I’m not sure what year the drinking age was raised back to 21, but it didn’t take long to realize that a horrible mistake had been made.

The voting age remained at 18 however. There wasn’t too much damage done to the county by the younger people being able to vote, because most of them didn’t vote.

But in 2008, these young Americans, too immature to legally drink alcohol, helped elect the President of the United States. The damage done to this country in 2008, by those young voters won’t be able to be corrected even in their lifetime.

Since young men are no longer forced into military service at 18, I suggest the voting age be raised to 21. The argument about dying for your country at 18 qualifies you to vote is no longer applicable. If you enter military service and die for your country, you elected to do that.

However I would be fine with people in the military younger than 21 being allowed to vote, since they have shown their maturity and love of country for entering military service and helping to defend the rest of us.

This is great.

How is it that a couple of 30 year old kids, if they are 30 even, can make this administration look so bad? Maybe it really isn’t that tough to do.
